3 out of 4 Brits don't know how to check the oil

It may be one of the most basic aspects of owning a car, but three out of four Brits are unaware of how to check their vehicle's oil, according to a new survey.
Research by Mobil 1 revealed that half of the country's motorists even questioned why there was a need for oil in the engine completely. The survey found that most drivers are on the lookout to save money for the upkeep of their vehicle but many are missing the very basics of ownership.
Mobil 1 found that 94 per cent of people did not know which type of oil their car required and frequently made the wrong decision resulting in their fuel efficiency being significantly dented.
Petrol prices are a major concern for motorists at the moment, but the likes of Morrison's and Sainsbury's have offered some respite by announcing that they would be dropping their prices by 2p and 3p respectively.
Dan McGoldrick, field marketing advisor UK for Mobil 1, said: "Using the right oil for your engine can potentially improve fuel economy, reduce engine wear and save lots of expense in the long run."
