Brits paying millions to keep cool

Summer is just around the corner and many Brits will be looking forward to taking the car out for a drive in the warmer weather.

However, it is important to keep cool when the temperatures begin to rise and research from Warranty Direct has found that the UK's motorists spend £102 million a year on repairing faulty air conditioning systems in their vehicle, culminating in an average bill of £426 per person.

Porsche and Seat owners have been left hot under the collar as the manufacturers finished first and second respectively in terms of air-con failure in the past three to seven years.

Owners of the German-made sports cars reported an average bill of £1,325, while Seat drivers paid out £435 as the two had the most frequent failures.

Mercedes were the most costly to repair totally an average of £2,968.

Duncan McClure Fisher, Warranty Direct managing director, said: "An air-conditioning fault won't typically leave you stranded on the hard shoulder but it can be one of the most expensive components to fix."
