Motorists in Glasgow have been warned to expect disruptions coinciding with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI later this month.
Transport Scotland is currently putting traffic management plans into effect in order to minimise delays when the pontiff stops in Glasgow and Edinburgh as part of his UK state visit on September 16th.
Among the measures which could affect drivers are the temporary closures of certain sections of the M77, M8, and A8, as well as travel restrictions on local roads throughout both cities.
As a result, Transport Scotland is calling on car owners to ensure they plan their daily journeys accordingly in advance, leave more time for travel and consider alternative transportation methods.
Jim Barton, Transport Scotland's chief roads engineer and director said: "Safety is paramount. That is why road authorities and transport providers have prepared comprehensive and coordinated plans."
The Pope will be celebrating Mass in Bellahouston Park on the day of his Glasgow visit, an event expected to draw crowds of up to 100,000 people.
