Holidaying drivers 'should have vehicles checked'

Motorists who are planning to set off on a long-distance drive during the summer holidays have been advised that they should get their vehicle checked before doing so.

According to car service centre giant ATS Euromaster, a quick and inexpensive vehicle health check is the best way to start a holiday and to avoid the risk of breaking down on the road.

Group operations director at the organisation Chris Hufflett commented: "For these holidaymakers the last thing they want is to break down at the side of the road with a car full of excited kids and a boot jam-packed with luggage."

He added that it can be both a miserable and a dangerous experience - but one that can be easily avoided.

Meanwhile, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents recently warned drivers to think about the safety of children and vulnerable drivers at all times when behind the wheel this summer.
