Lower drink-drive level in Scotland hailed by Brake

Proposals to lower the drink drive level in Scotland to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood have been backed by Brake.
Justice secretary Kenny MacAskill is looking to put the plans into force in the latter part of the year in a bid to lower the amount drink-drive related accidents in the country, but Brake believes that it could be lowered even further.
The organisation stated that it would like to see the UK's government to follow in the footsteps of their Scottish counterparts and also reduce the rate.
It also added that moving down again to 20mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood would be acceptable but to send out the "best message" the UK had to take a zero-tolerance approach to drink driving.
Sarah Fatica, general manager at Brake, said: "What we really need to see is a strong message from our governments in Scotland and Westminster to say that not a drop is acceptable if you are behind the wheel."
