Greater Manchester Police has highlighted its success in reducing rates of car crime across the county as part of its summertime crackdown on criminals.
According to figures from the constabulary, vehicle crime has been slashed by 19.5 per cent in 2010 as a result of Operation Storm, a scheme centred on combating burglaries and car theft.
In the last week alone, 969 thieves were arrested in the Manchester area, while 29 stolen cars were identified.
Moreover, the constabulary has also been issuing advice on how people can do their bit to protect themselves from criminals, such as by locking their car doors and removing valuables from vehicles.
Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney said: "I can assure law-abiding and law-breaking citizens that it does not end here. We will continue to work to reduce burglary, robbery and vehicle crime and bring offenders to justice over the coming months."
Earlier this month, the police force conducted an initiative against rogue traders who operate without car insurance in Wigan, with a number of vehicles seized.
