Motorists 'should take care in winter conditions'
Drivers have been warned to be cautious on British roads in the coming days as cold weather hits and snow is forecast to affect central England, Wales and Scotland.
Temperatures could drop to minus four degrees C in places, while there has been a 53 per cent increase in the number of breakdowns caused by flat car batteries, according to vehicle recovery specialists Green Flag.
Miranda Schunke, spokesperson for Green Flag, said: "We advise motorists to take extra care as the winter weather looks to set to cause hazardous driving conditions this weekend and into next week."
She added people should plan in advance to allow extra time for their journey so they are not forced to drive too quickly in what could be dangerous conditions.
Motorists are also advised to take corners slowly without touching the clutch unless absolutely necessary.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists examiner Peter Rodger advises motorists not to set off in a journey in bad weather unless it is absolutely necessary.
