Motorists 'still on road despite penalty points'
The latest DVLA figures showing over 10,000 drivers are still on the road despite picking up 12 or more penalty points because of exceptional circumstances have been criticised by breakdown company GEM Motoring Assist.
It revealed that 80 per cent of British motorists feel there should be no exception to the rule, which is set up to ensure dangerous drivers do not cause accidents and raise insurance premiums.
David Williams, chief executive officer of GEM Motoring Assist, said these figures showed many UK drivers are unhappy with the prospect of people getting away with bad or unsafe use of their vehicles.
"It is very worrying from a road safety perspective to see how many motorists are still on the roads despite being penalised for dangerous driving, speeding and other traffic offences," Mr Williams added.
Road safety charity Brake recently revealed that the number of road traffic police in the UK has dropped, raising fears over the safety of British roads.
