Sat-navs vital for British drivers

The days of frantically rifling through the A to Z to find the correct way to go are long gone and now Brits are now more dependent on their sat-navs than ever before.
As part of the Readers' Awards on autoexpress.co.uk over a quarter of UK motorists named the navigational systems as the must-have gadget while they were behind the wheel to ensure they are not caught going the wrong way.
Sat navs scooped the accolade for "best car accessory" as voted for by the visitors of the site, while the best portable device was given to Garmin's nüLink! 1695LMU.
Smartphone apps were also commended, with TomTom's device being named as the best, despite a recent survey by RoadSafe finding that 58 per cent of young drivers admitted to being distracted by the devices.
Steve Fowler, editor-in-chief of Auto Express, said: "With many car owners holding onto their cars for longer, keeping them pristine is critical to maximising their value at resale time."
