Smartphones prove distracting for young drivers

Smartphones are becoming the scourge of the UK's highways after they were found to be distracting a lot of young drivers.
A survey by RoadSafe found that 58 per cent of motorists aged 17 to 25 backed up this claim with many of them admitting to using a phone while behind the wheel of their car.
With smartphones now incorporating every form of social media such as Facebook, Twitter as well as highly popular games such as the addictive Angry Birds, many young drivers feel the temptation to make a quick update while driving.
However, RoadSafe's survey found that one in six male drivers under 25 had been involved in a serious collision due to using a mobile phone.
Chief executive Richard King said: "As well as not texting or making calls, we should all pledge not to tweet, update our status or be tempted by anything else our phone has to offer whilst driving."
