Telematics scheme launched in Scotland

Young drivers looking to secure cheaper car insurance have recently been favouring the use of telematics, 'black box', devices and now an organisation has launched a campaign promoting the systems.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in Scotland has teamed up with MyDrive Solutions to launch an innovative project which will aim to use the telematics for younger drivers using a vehicle to get to work.
Ministers from the Scottish government have backed the scheme which will run until July 2013 and stated that there will be no charge involved for organisations that want to undertake the pilot scheme within their operations.
Officials have said that the initiative is designed to allow employers to see how the car insurance system will best benefit their organisation and also help to promote road safety.
Kathleen Braidwood, road safety officer at RoSPA Scotland, said: "By monitoring driving every second, we can develop a detailed picture of the real-life driving habits of young at-work drivers. This black box technology then allows the risk to be assessed very easily and accurately."
