Women hit with rising car insurance prices

Female motorists are facing the prospect of paying more for their car insurance despite overall premium costs falling, according to a new report.
Tiger.co.uk's latest 'Tiger Watch' price monitor revealed that, while motor insurance prices fell by 6.2 per cent for June compared to the same period last year, female drivers are being made to pay 1.2 per cent more due to new European Union (EU) regulation.
The EU is looking to abolish a gulf between genders and has announced that insurance costs are being more aligned in the coming months.
Despite this ruling not being implemented until December, women are already feeling the repercussions of the new laws.
Andrew Goulborn, Tiger.co.uk's commercial director, said: "Generally we've seen pretty flat car insurance policy pricing over the last 12 months. In fact, prices have dropped slightly versus their June 2011 peak. However, monthly inflation is hitting women motorists – especially young women motorists – harder than males."
