A campaign group has called for improvements to be made to the A28 road linking Glasgow and Inverness in order to make it safer for heavy goods vehicles and other road users.
The A28 Partnership has stated that the narrow, twisting nature of the road means that it is currently unsafe, as well as pointing out that the surface of the route is also showing signs of degradation.
This call comes after two incidents in the past week in which lorries have been damaged after veering off the road, causing major disruptions to travel and injuring one driver, reports the Press and Journal.
Around £90 million should be spent on improving the road, according to the A28 Partnership, which has gathered 8,500 signatures via an online petition to back its demands.
Highland councillor Brian Murphy, chairman of the campaign group, said: "The A82 is a dangerous road and there really should be much more money being spent on it."
Last week, figures collected by the Press Association revealed that road repairs within Glasgow have also gained prominence in the last year, with Glasgow City Council spending £4 million to fix damage done to surfaces during the harsh winter.
