The Welsh Government will discover "robust evidence" of the need for changes to the Severn toll system with a new study, an industry organisation has said.
Welcoming the announcement of the review of Severn Crossing tolls, the Freight Transport Association (FTA) said that haulage companies are currently being penalised by "unfair and unnecessary toll price hikes".
Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has confirmed that the government will look at how these tolls are affecting the economy after a meeting earlier this year with the FTA.
FTA spokesperson Ian Gallagher said that Severn Crossing tolls are higher than elsewhere.
"Companies are effectively being penalised for doing business in Wales," he stated.
Last month, the FTA welcomed the fact that fuel duty had not been increased in the Budget but warned that if it should later rise by 1p a litre in October as planned, problems would ensue.
It claimed that commercial vehicle operators would have to pay £125 million more on an annual basis.
