Logistics 'vital to UK growth'
Logistics and transport are finally gaining some recognition for their role in Britain's economic development, according to the Road Haulage Association (RHA) chief executive.
Geoff Dunning met with deputy prime minister Nick Clegg and employment minister Christ Grayling last week to discuss the transport sector and has been assured the government has a focus on what logistics can do for the UK, he told Commercial Motor magazine.
"We are finding that the Treasury and the Department for Transport now understand that logistics has to be part of the growth agenda," explained Mr Dunning.
He added that he intends to look at the population of drivers working in the industry and what needs to change in this field moving forward as an industry, hopefully with a degree of support from the government in filling driver shortages.
Recently the Freight Transport Association declared its intention to work more closely with the Highways Agency in making life easier for hauliers.
