Kia records strong first half of 2012
Kia Motor Corporation has announced that it has performed well in the first part of 2012, posting record figures for the period.
Officials at the South Korean manufacturer revealed that Kia had experienced its best year ever as it saw sales figures increase by 12 per cent to 1,340,000 vehicles across the globe, boosting revenues by £13.6 billion, according to figures released at a conference in Seoul. These figures meant the company had made a 9.5 per cent improvement on 2011's money generated through sales, providing a highly positive performance over the past 12 months.
There were improvements across the globe although officials noted the progression within the European market which saw a 24.5 per cent increase, with the amount of vehicles purchased within the continent rising to 170,000 from 137,000 in 2011. This result meant that the continent now took a bigger market share as it grew by 2.5 per cent.
Kia also revealed that sales in North America and China were providing pleasing results with them increasing to 289,000 and 221,000 respectively. However, in the company's home country of Korea, sales fell from 248,000 in 2011 to 238,000 this year.
Paul Philpott, president and chief executive officer of Kia Motors UK and Ireland said: "At a time when customers might be expected to be cautious it is clear they see Kia as not just a safe investment, thanks in part in Europe to the strong security of our industry-leading simple-to-understand and fully-transferrable seven-year warranty, but a desirable product with enhanced quality, dazzling design and modern, usable, technology delivering low-cost of ownership and sustainable performance."
Kia has continued its strong performance throughout the year with a recent publication in April showing that it managed to deliver 5,120 vehicles in the UK over the course of the month. Despite this figure falling short of the company's record for the month, set back in 2010, it meant that the company's market share grew by 3.6 per cent as sales hit 22,331 in the UK over the course of the year.
