Peugeot has highlighted the success enjoyed by its brand during August 2010, a month which saw the overall motor trade experience a downturn.
The French manufacturer was able to claim 6.3 per cent of the market during the month, its best market share figure since October 2007, thanks to strong sales of models such as the 3008, 5008 and RCZ.
According to the firm, its sales for the year to date are now tracking 16.8 per cent ahead of their 2009 levels, meaning growth of Peugeot sales is outstripping the rate of improvement seen across the sector as a whole.
Jon Goodman, managing director of Peugeot UK, said its success is attributable to the appeal of its newer models and the performance of its vehicles.
"These figures show just how strong the Peugeot brand has become, outperforming the car market considerably in tough post-scrappage conditions and maintaining sales in a traditionally quiet August," he added.
According to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders research published this week, the August sales drop is associated with the imminent introduction of the new licence plate.
