Saab prices 'falling due to uncertainty over brand'

Ongoing uncertainty over the future of the Saab brand has led to a large reduction in car values in recent months, according to an expert.

Used Car Expert Magazine has revealed that the average price of a two-year-old Saab is now little over £11,000, which has declined from a peak of more than £14,000 last February.

According to the publication, this deprecation in value is linked to the lack of support the brand has received from parent company General Motors (GM), which has had severe financial difficulties in the last year.

Matt Tumbridge, the magazine's editor, compared the situation to the decline of Rover, but suggested that valuations for the vehicles will improve when GM clarifies its plans for the brand this week.

He said: "It's lunacy that prices have been so soft so long and as soon as Saab's future is clear, prices will firm up."

Last month, British Car Auctions revealed that the average price of used vehicles has declined in recent months as the market returns to a more normal level after peaking in September.
