Swinging Sixties dubbed era of classic motoring

Britain is a nation of classic-car lovers, and their affection knows no boundaries when it comes to vehicles from the 1960s.
A survey by specialist car and motor cycle insurance broker Footman James has found that the 'Swinging Sixties' is the most popular era for vehicles. The company discovered that 64 per cent of respondents named the 1960s as the time that they have the most interest in.
This was compared to the 1980s, which only 28 per cent of classic car owners noted as their favourite decade.
Officials stated that the 1960s saw a number of milestones for the automotive industry, with the MGB being manufactured for the first time and Morris Miner being the first car to sell over one million units in 1961.
Andy Fairchild, Footman James' managing director, said: "The challenge for the industry now is to generate an enthusiasm for the future classics, cars from the 90s and noughties, ensuring the passion for classics lives on in current generations, thus securing the future of the industry for years to come."
