Cabbies voice concern over Billericay rail station plans

Taxi drivers in the Billericay region have called on those in charge of the local rails station to consult drivers over new plans to refurbish the facility.

Members of the Billericay Station Taxi Permit Association have expressed concern that a lack of discussion with cabbies will prevent the implementation of measures to improve traffic conditions around the station.

Driver Mark Walter, co-founder of the association, told local newspaper the Echo that the entrance to the station is currently congested with vehicles which block off the taxi rank.

He said: "We're the ideal people to talk to. We know what needs to be done and we want to put our point of view forward."

A spokesman for National Express, which is in charge of the taxi rank, subsequently confirmed that taxi drivers will be among the groups to be consulted next month.

Earlier this month, taxi drivers in Edinburgh told the Scotsman of their unhappiness with plans by Edinburgh Airport to implement drop-off charges as part of a revamp of the facility.
