Taxi drivers in the vicinity of Cambridge may be violating the terms of their insurance by offering to drive customers into the city.
Lee Cave, operator of the Cambourne-based firm 079 Call a Cab, has accused other drivers in South Cambridgeshire of ignoring licensing laws by touting for clients outside of the city limits, reports Cambridge News.
He expressed concern that this is placing customers at risk, as their illegal practices would mean that customers would not be covered in the event of an accident.
The driver said he will be reporting these illegal incidents to South Cambridgeshire District Council, which has pledged to take action.
A spokesman for the authority said: "Because passenger safety is important to us, we do take part in local operations with the police and other agencies to clamp down on all illegal activity where private hire vehicles are concerned."
Last month, the Blackburn Citizen reported that a number of taxi drivers in the Hyndburn area were recently penalised for violations of safety laws, following offences such as speeding and mobile phone use.
