Edinburgh taxis 'enjoy good customer service levels'
Taxi drivers in Edinburgh offer excellent customer service and are striving to make it even better, according to the chairman of an industry body.
In a letter to the Scotsman, Edinburgh Licensed Taxi Partnership (ELTP) chairman Les McVay expressed his satisfaction with the low level of opprobrium faced by the industry.
Pointing out that there are more then five million taxi journeys undertaken in the city every year, Mr McVay explained this means complaints would equate to a level of around 0.00392 per cent.
He added that the installation of CCTV cameras would add to the safety of drivers and passengers in the city.
"Edinburgh has a taxi fleet that plays a vital role in business and the tourist industry and is a vital public transport service of the nation's capital," said Mr McVay.
Figures from the ELTP suggest the Edinburgh taxi industry employs approximately 5,000 people in the city, more than twice as many as work for Lothian Buses.
