Nissan lands environmental award

Nissan has scooped the Environment Award at the 2012 Van Fleet World Honours for its prototype of the e-NV200 van.
The Japanese manufacturer wowed judges with its battery-powered electric version of the NV200 vehicle 12 months prior to its release into the global car and van market. Van Fleet World officials were impressed with the e-NV200's "highly responsive and easy" driving experience.
Ministers are encouraging fleet operators and individuals to take up "green vehicles" by introducing the Plug-In Car Van Grant which allows potential buyers to purchase electric vehicles by using a government subsidy.
Nissan believes that the e-NV200 provides motorists an alternative from fossil fuel burning vehicles and can reach an 80 per cent charge in just 30 minutes.
James Douglas, corporate sales director, Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, said: "The e-NV200 prototype has been designed to provide businesses with functional and roomy interior space, while producing zero CO2 at the point of use."
