Surge in commercial vehicle sales aids Ford growth

Ford is continuing to perform strongly as its sales were boosted by a surge in commercial vehicle purchases.
The British manufacturer saw that car sales were up by seven per cent for the month of May compared to the same period in the past year, according to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Following slow sales in April, the commercial vehicle market soared in May with Ford experiencing an 11 per cent increase, when combined with the strong sales of its Fiesta model, to reach 50,507.
Overall, Ford's sales across all the segments were up by 32.3 per cent in May showing that the company continues to perform well in times of economic hardship.
Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "The strong sales momentum of Ford's car range through 2012 is now being matched by our commercial vehicles, with the notable recovery in that sector in May."
