Tips to help you reduce your car insurance premiums

Car insurance is compulsory but you don't need to pay more than you have to. We have put together some tips to help you make sure you get the best deal on your car insurance.

Excess

The best way to lower your car insurance premiums is to choose a higher voluntary excess. If you opt to pay the first £250 of any claim, for example, this will lower your premium. By taking on more of the risk you'll get a reduction in the amount you have to pay for your insurance. Be aware though, that it will cost you if you have a claim.

Security

Fitting security devices can result in lower insurance premiums. If you live in a high-risk area, having extra security such as an immobiliser can help. You could save money when your car insurance is due for renewal along with peace of mind knowing that your car is safe.

Mileage

Driving 5,000 miles or less can help to reduce your car insurance premiums however if you exceed this you may incur an additional charge.

Additional Drivers

Adding drivers to your car insurance policy may increase or reduce your premiums. It all depends on the drivers age, sex and driving record. Young drivers will increase your premiums, however, adding drivers aged over 30 years old with a good driving history can reduce premiums. Adding a spouse often helps.
