BMW releases high-tech Seven series

BMW is claiming a host of ‘world firsts’ with the release of its luxurious new Seven series saloon.

The car includes the world’s first night vision system with pedestrian recognition, featuring a control unit which alerts the driver if someone walks in front of the car after dark.

Also featuring are front side-view cameras which give drivers a better view of the road when negotiating blind junctions.

BMW said: “With the touch of a button two forward-facing cameras mounted in the front bumper can show an overview of traffic conditions on the iDrive display.”

Other gadgets packed into the technologically-advanced vehicle include a lane change warning system and speed-related integral active steering.

The BMW 750Li edition of the new model will go from zero to 60mph in 5.3 seconds and could lead new owners to seek a sports car insurance policy.

BMW’s 118d model recently scooped the World Green Car of the Year title at the New York International Auto Show 2008 after impressing a panel of journalists.
