A dramatic race featuring 14 celebrity drivers was one of the highlights of this year’s Silverstone Classic, which featured more than 1,000 historic sports cars.
Rock star Rick Parfitt Jnr emerged as the winner of the Celebrity Challenge following a narrow victory over chef Heston Blumenthal and dancer Brendan Cole at the famous circuit in Northamptonshire.
Luther Blissett, the former Watford and England footballer, was involved in a spectacular crash in his Morgan Roadster during the race.
The 53-year-old emerged unscathed from the car, which was sent into a dramatic barrel-roll as he attempted to overtake Cole on the first lap.
“When it stopped, I definitely breathed a sigh of relief but I never felt in any real danger as I knew the Morgan was strong,” Blissett said afterwards.
The Silverstone Classic marked its 21st anniversary this year, as well hosting 50th birthday celebrations for the E-type Jaguar.
Event director Nick Wigley said he believes it was “the biggest motor racing event ever staged”.
