Highland councillors have called on Transport Scotland to prioritise making improvements to the A82 road from Glasgow to Inverness.
Members of the authority have responded to the transport agency’s decision to delay improvements to the A82 in Fort William by suggesting that funds be reallocated to other parts of the road.
Among the areas described as “high-priority” by councillors was the roundabout at the A82 and A830 junction, reports the Press and Journal.
However, authorities and local interest groups in the area welcomed the decision to delay the initially planned works, which would have seen the busy road closed overnight for three weeks.
Stewart Maclean, a spokesman for the A82 Partnership action group, said: “We look forward to an option being brought forward which will not require a road closure.”
This comes after it was announced earlier this week that Glasgow’s motorway network is to undergo extensive refurbishments in order to improve traffic flow.
