Car insurance policyholders in Liverpool are facing further disruption as emergency works are carried out on a local thoroughfare.
Rice Lane, in the Walton area of the city, had been the site of extensive redevelopment for four months and some drivers were less than pleased to learn that tailbacks have already returned to the road, less than a week after it reopened fully.
A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council told the Liverpool Echo that the priority is ensuring local residents are not deprived of their electrical supply, adding: “It should be noted that this work is not connected with recent improvement work on Rice Lane.”
However, the Echo reports that Walton businesses have already lost thousands of pounds as a result of the upheaval and Brendan Cain, who runs a nearby nursery, described the situation as “a pure nightmare”.
In March, Merseytravel announced that the Mersey Tunnels are set for a £5 million improvement programme.
