Motorists in Manchester have received a warning from police that their vehicles may be at risk from thieves when they go Christmas shopping.
Greater Manchester Police have reminded drivers that cars loaded up with newly-bought gifts and expensive shopping represents a tempting target for burglars.
As a result, the constabulary has called on car owners to ensure they have taken precautions against criminals, such as parking in a secure, well-lit location and removing valuables from the car when it is unattended.
Inspector Dave Henthorne from Salford Central Neighbourhood Policing Team said this can help drivers to avoid the unnecessary stress and expenditure which results from becoming a victim of crime.
He added: “This is an ideal opportunity for us to raise awareness and help reduce the risk of the community falling victim to this crime.”
Earlier this week, the constabulary also warned drivers to ensure that they resist the urge to drink and drive during the festive party season.
