Manchester City Council has condemned the actions of a motorist who was fined for fraudulently using a disabled badge.
Cessaro Buller was ordered to pay almost £800 after being found guilty of using his great aunt’s disabled badge to park for free in Manchester city centre.
The badge was spotted by officials from the authority and questioned Mr Buller, who was forced to admit that his relative was in Wythenshawe at the time of the incident.
Martin Lee, head of street management at Manchester City Council, used the incident to highlight the importance of using blue disabled badges in an appropriate manner.
He said: “Mr Buller … should know it can only be used to help disabled relatives and his attempt to avoid responsibility by entering a not guilty plea clearly backfired.”
This comes after the authority earlier this month reminded drivers that it is on the lookout for blue badge cheats after issuing fines to three motorists found guilty of a similar indiscretion.
