Manchester police issue warning over unsafe school parking

Greater Manchester Police have warned the city’s residents that thoughtless parking around schools could be causing a safety risk.

The constabulary has raised concerns that parents parking too close to school gates is leading to traffic congestion in the area, which is inconvenient and potentially dangerous to motorists and children alike.

This safety risk is heightened during the winter, as the dark mornings and evenings make visibility poor for those crossing the road.

PCSO Dominique Grimes of Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team has therefore called on parents to park further away from schools and walk with their children to and from the building.

She said this will help to protect potentially vulnerable road users.

This follows a similar warning issued by Glasgow City Council earlier this year, with the authority telling the Glasgow Evening Times that irresponsible parking can also stop homeowners in such areas from leaving their drives.
