A family-owned car dealership business has returned to its roots after taking over a Honda showroom in Bolton where it started out almost 50 years ago.
The Smyth family-owned Swansway Group has acquired Gordon’s Honda car dealership to add to the 19 it already runs in Manchester, Stockport and Rochdale. When expanding, businesses should check the details of their motor trade insurance policies to ensure they provide the right level of cover for the new business.
Michael Smyth, who started the business and lives in Bolton, originally opened his first dealership in the town in 1997. The group, called RRG, expanded to become the biggest Toyota dealer in Europe.
RRG was sold off in 2000 and the family started the Swansway Group three years later. The group is run by Michael and his sons John, Peter and David.
Michael told Car Dealer magazine: "Being back where it all started is special for us; we’ve remained a family-owned and run business, and my sons were born and brought up in Bolton, so to return to the town gives us all great pleasure.
"We already have experience of the Honda brand, operating three further sites in the area and we’re looking forward to getting to grips with our latest centre, back in our home town."
