Man guilty of multiple car dealership thefts

A man has pleaded guilty of committing a series of car thefts from dealerships in West Tyrone.

Ian William Reid, 27, has been charged with 16 offences, including the theft of a BMW 325 Sport, a Playstation 3, four alloy wheels and a laptop from C&M Motors, as well as a Seat Leon from Paul Logue Motors in June 2014. Reid, from Derry, was also charged with being in possession of bolt cutters, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, and police obstruction.

As a motor trader, bringing in the best security measures to protect your premises and its contents is key. But incidents such as this highlight that thieves can still breach even the most expensive security systems, so it is also worth considering taking out a suitable combined motor trade insurance policy, ensuring your policy includes motor trade insurance suited to both the vehicles and equipment held on site.

Dungannon Crown Court heard that Reid had already been in court charged with similar offences dating back to February, where he stole a Volkswagen Golf from Greg Mitchell Motors, and committed criminal damage to a window, glass, a fence and a metal key box.

Following the hearing, Reid was remanded in custody at Maghaberry Prison until sentencing on 17 November, the Ulster Herald reported.
