Ford once again showed its dominance within the automotive industry by coming away from the Fleet News Awards with a trio of accolades.
The company left the ceremony with the title of Best Small Car, Green Fleet Manufacturer and Most Improved Fleet Manufacturer secured until the next year. It highlights the firm’s strong start to 2013 and that the vehicles are still proving popular with both consumers and industry officials alike. The Ford Fiesta continued its strong performance from the previous year by being named the Best Small Car after a series of alterations that the company had carried out for the start of 2013.
Officials explained that the Fiesta had had to fight off stiff competition from a host of strong candidates. Judges were impressed with the car’s six engines emitting less than 100g/km CO2 and this alone was highlighted as being a deciding factor in keeping Ford ahead of its rivals. The company’s efficient EcoBoost petrol engines were singled out for special praise as it took home the Green Fleet Manufacturer title.
Ford’s commitment to reduce its global carbon footprint also had not gone unnoticed with the third honour of Most Improved Fleet Manufacturer recognising the changes the company had made to improve its service for the business sector.
Phil Hollins, Ford of Britain fleet director, said: “We are exceptionally proud to have received three widely-respected awards, which come as recognition for our hard work in developing the new Ford Fiesta, a wide EcoBoost petrol engine range and our continued commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.”
The success at the Fleet News Awards has gone alongside Ford’s strong start to the year. Recent figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed that the company had secured 15.0 per cent of the February market which was an improvement of 0.5 percentage points on the same time 12 months prior.
Ford also managed to take the lead in terms of cars and commercial vehicle sales in the UK over the course of February and year to date.
