Ford has moved further ahead of its competitors in the automotive market after experiencing a highly positive August.
The company watched its total sales figures year-to-date increase by 3.3 per cent after the past month which saw its market lead stretch by 78 per cent from its nearest rival, according to figures by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Officials noted that these positive results were driven by the success of its Fiesta model, which is currently the UK’s best selling vehicle over the course of 2012. Both the Ford Transit and its range of commercial cars also continued to perform strongly, leading the market for the 47th consecutive year.
Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director, added: “A stream of exciting new Ford technology and products, including the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine in Focus, has been key to this success and in September the new Focus ST and B-MAX join the range for this important sales month.”
