Demand for electric vehicles among UK drivers could be set to rise thanks to recent initiatives from government and the industry.
This is the view of eco-friendly vehicle advice source Clean Green Cars, which suggested that take-up of electric cars could see significant increases as early as next year.
The prediction comes as regional development agency Advantage West Midlands announced a scheme to supply drivers in Birmingham and Coventry with Mitsubishi I-MiEVs as part of an electric vehicle trial.
Richard Bremner, editor of Clean Green Cars, expressed confidence that measures such as this, in addition to the rollout of new vehicles from major manufacturers, will help to increase the profile of green cars among UK consumers.
He said: “2010 should see the wider public beginning to think that electric cars really are a practical possibility.”
Mr Bremner added that the government should look to increase the number of financial incentives on offer to users in order to further encourage electric vehicle use.
