The new Volkswagen Golf is now available to order and boasts improved safety, more space and efficiency.
The vehicle is the seventh generation of the model and builds on 29 million previous sales of Golf.
It will be available in the UK in three trim levels: S, SE and GT, with GTI and BlueMotion going on sale in 2013.
Four petrol engines and two diesel can be chosen from in either three or five-door form.
Prices start at £16,285, which is lower than those of the previous Golf model, rising to £24,880 for the top-end version.
All new Golf models are fitted with Stop/Start technology as standard, while gearboxes range from five and six-speed manuals to six and seven-speed DSGs.
Other features of the vehicle include seven airbags, ABS with ESP, while the entry-level car is fitted with a Composition Media system which allows users to enjoy DAB digital radio and their iPod through the control of a 5.8-inch touchscreen display.
