The most popular cars in each region of the UK have been revealed in new data from Auto Trader.
Range Rovers and different models of MINIs topped the list in six of the 18 regions. The study also explained that while in high demand these vehicles are in relatively low supply, therefore representing a good opportunity for car dealers to make a quick profit.
Understanding the demands of your local marketplace is essential for any car dealer, whether an individual trader or a franchise. This will help determine what stock a trader takes on board, something that will in turn help inform their road risks insurance policy – or indeed a combined motor trade insurance policy – as they can get the correct level of cover for the types of vehicles they will need to drive.
Auto Trader’s report analysed profit potential and average speed-of-sale, stock volumes, availability and consumer demand to create a score for different cars in each region. Aside from the aforementioned Range Rovers and MINIs, there was a wide spread among other car makes on the list, including the Renault Clio, VW Golf and a couple of Vauxhalls and Audis.
The company’s trade solutions director Tim Marriott said that while the research revealed some interesting trends, it is important to remember this is just a snapshot of the market. He warned: “Desirability scores for more than half of the models on sale change month-by-month, so dealers can’t afford to stand still.”
