Vauxhall was the fastest selling brand of used cars during January, according to fresh from the market figures published by Auto Trader.
The media group put the Astra Estate in first position, taking an average of 25 days to sell, with the second spot in the national league table going to the Vauxhall Insignia, which sold in an average of 26 days.
Monthly sales tables are a useful guide to the market for used car dealers seeking to replenish their stock. They can provide a good idea of what car buyers are currently looking for and you can take advantage of the trend for your business. However, if you are buying in more valuable stock than you usually have, be sure to check that you have the right level of motor trade insurance to cover them.
During 2015, Auto Trader named the Ford Fiesta as the fastest selling used car of the year, but it did not even make the January national monthly top 10 quick sellers. The vehicle did, however, feature strongly in almost all of the regional fast selling tables for the month.
The January national analysis suggests that used car buyers are looking for manual motors, with nine out of 10 of the fast sellers having manual transmissions. The results also showed a tendency for buyers to opt for larger vehicles during January, with MPVs, estates and SUVs accounting for some 60 per cent of the top 10. Buyers did not show any particular preference for petrol or diesel models, with sales split almost evenly between the two fuel types.
As well as a strong showing for Vauxhall, Nissan models were also fast-sellers and appeared on the majority of the regional tables. In Wales and the South West, the Nissan Qashqai was the number one fast seller and three variations of the model appeared in the London top 10.
