Demand for used vans continues to rise

Demand for used vans among fleet customers has continued to drive vehicle values in the last month, according to British Car Auctions (BCA) figures.

The retailer has published its March 2010 market report, revealing that the average value of a used light commercial vehicle last month came to £4,500.

Although this represents a 1.8 per cent decline compared to the benchmark levels seen in February, it was nevertheless the second-highest value on record, while average prices for the quarter were up by 15.2 per cent compared to the last three months of 2009.

BCA credited this trend to ongoing strong demand among van customers for nearly-new, part-exchange and fleet vehicles, hailing an “exceptionally strong start to 2010”.

Duncan Ward of BCA said: “Values are significantly ahead of those recorded in 2009 and if demand stays at current levels we would expect prices to remain firm going forward.”

This comes after the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders released figures this month showing that sales of new vans also saw an improvement in March 2010.
