Ford announces new van scrappage scheme for London

Ford has announced that it will be launching a new scrappage programme for vans in London.

The initiation of the programme coincides with tough new regulations on vehicle emissions being introduced in the capital and will help light commercial vehicle (LCV) operators to trade older vans for more environmentally friendly models.

Owners of Transit, Transit Connect and Fiesta vans that are more than ten years old will be entitled to claim back up to £3,000 off the price of a new vehicle when they trade in their previous LCV.

Ford states that the scheme is being introduced well in advance of the new London Low Emission Zone restrictions, which come into effect on January 3rd 2011.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “Ford’s commitment as market leader is a fantastic contribution to my goal of a less polluted London with a great quality of life.”

This comes after Ford unveiled a developmental version of its new zero-emission Transit Connect Electric van at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2011.
