Drivers in North Yorkshire looking to keep their van insurance premiums intact might want to follow police advice and not leave valuables on display in their vehicles.
Officers in the region have launched the Scream initiative, which stands for Sustainable Crime Reduction by Educating At risk Motorists, the Nidderdale Herald reports.
As part of the campaign, police patrolling the areas of Ripon and Pateley Bridge will be on the lookout for items left in vehicles that could draw in thieves.
Owners of these vehicles will then receive a letter warning them of the perils of not removing their belongings from sight.
Police are advising drivers to store their possessions in the boot of their vehicles or preferably remove the items altogether from the automobile when parking up.
Motorists are advised that the most important items to remove from vehicles include credit or debit cards and driving documents.
