A number of Glasgow taxi firms are to utilise a locally-developed iPhone application to provide additional security for clients.
Companies including Glasgow Taxis, City Cars, Network Taxis and Hampden Cars have signed up to use the MyTaxiRank app, which was developed by entrepreneurs Frankie and Andrew Anderson from Bishopbriggs.
The app allows clients to book cabs online and then send details of the vehicle, their journey and location to friends and family via email, text or Facebook, reports the Glasgow Evening News.
Development of the application was prompted by an incident in which a friend of the Anderson brothers was subjected to intimidation by a fraudulent driver.
It is hoped that the application will be able to help vulnerable passengers, such as lone females, to feel more secure.
Earlier this month, Glasgow Taxis announced the launch of a new personalised account scheme especially for women customers in order to improve security further around the festive period.
