Scottish car dealer Arnold Clark is to create 155 new motor industry jobs in Glasgow as part of a UK-wide recruitment drive.
The independently-owned trading company has begun hiring for a variety of sales roles, support positions and apprenticeships in order to support its new developments in northern England.
In addition to the jobs created in Glasgow, Arnold Clark will also be offering roles in Dundee, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and at a number of its English sites.
In total, 700 new positions are to be created across the UK.
The move has already been hailed by chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling as a “vital boost” for the British car industry.
Meanwhile, Sir Arnold Clark, chairman and chief executive of the firm, said: “With the global economy going through such a difficult period, our announcement today can only be seen as a positive step in helping to combat unemployment.”
The firm also credited the decision to the positive effect the government scrappage scheme has had on the industry, having earlier this week called for the initiative to be extended.
