An Ayr car dealership enjoyed a busy first month of sales – and not only because of the scrappage scheme.
Glen Henderson Mazda opened for business at the beginning of September, a month which eventually saw the Japanese carmaker’s best ever sales figures in Scotland.
The new dealership played its part in Mazda’s success, selling 60 new cars – 300 per cent more than it had expected.
Most manufacturers found that cars at the bottom end of their ranges proved to be particularly popular during September, as motorists rushed to take advantage of the scrappage scheme by trading in their ageing vehicles for low-cost new cars.
However, Calum Watson, dealer principal at Glen Henderson Mazda, said: “Sales came across the range, including the Mazda MX-5, and not just from Mazda2 and Mazda3.”
That experience tallied with other dealerships, as only 16 per cent of the 1,556 new Mazdas sold in Scotland during September were due to the scrappage scheme.
